Good Read | #GIRLBOSS

#GIRLBOSS - is the inspirational book by Sophie Amoruso, the founder of one of the fastest-growing fashion retailers in the world, is one of the best things I have ever delved into.

The book takes you on a journey through Sophie's life, from shoplifting and eating other peoples leftovers from bins to being at the top of a multi-million dollar company, all crammed into the pages.

As someone who would one day love to have their own business in the fashion/beauty industry, a real life story of someone coming from nothing to successfully do that is exactly what I want to read.
The recurring theme throughout the book is female domination and making sure you are great at what you do no matter what it is, which in itself is extremely motivational!

Once I picked this book up, I could not put it down! I wanted to know more, I wanted to know how she did it and most importantly I wanted to know if I could do the same!
There's no easy way to say it, what happened to Nasty Gal (the clothing brand this whole book is entered around) is somewhat of a phenomenon. This doesn't happen often. The rate at which this company grew and expanded was something that even the professionals at the top of their industry were surprised by. So even though that kind of success is still a distant goal, the act of creating a brand, designing clothing and running a business you are passionate about is something we can all do!

Thankfully, we no longer live in a society where women achievers are suppressed or denied the platform to grow. We live in a society where women empower each other to be great throughout all sorts of industries and I think that is something we should be incredibly proud of and embrace.
There has never been a more enabling time in life for people to live their dreams and make things happen and that really speaks to me!

I hope you can all achieve what you set out to one day!

Motivational Monday

Monday is the day where my motivation is lacking the most and all I want to do is crawl back into bed for a few more hours and not have to deal with all the things I have to do...

This isn't good! Monday is the start of the week and therefore it is more important than you think to set yourself up for the following few days!

Monday's shouldn't be about mourning the weekend or begging the next one to hurry up! Monday's should be all about setting yourself to smash whatever is coming your way this week, and I don't mean smashing out of anger!

If you're anything like me, you have big aims and want to achieve them more than anything. However, you sometimes get bogged down by all the things you have to do to achieve them and sometimes feel like procrastinating is the only thing to do! WRONG!

Get up, get ready and do whatever you have to do to achieve those goals! You are the only person in control of achieving them and if you don't work hard for it, don't expect it to find you!

I am learning more and more everyday that what you give out into the world helps to attract what you receive. If you're not a believer in that kind of stuff, that's cool too but trust me the law of attraction really does help to focus your mind on your ambitions and that has to be good right?!

So this is my little Monday motivational message (MMM, I kinda like that!) telling you not to give up or doubt what you can achieve. You got this.

How I Intend to Change

Before we even knew it, 2016 has already sprung up on us. I wasn't going to write this post as I often see 'New Year, New Me' posts as one big cliche that people tend not to stick too.

However, I also see 2016 as an opportunity to make some changes to myself and my lifestyle including changes right here on this blog.

I feel like in life, I often settle for less than I should. I think I can't achieve something just because it seems out of reach. This year, I want to concentrate on reaching those aims and not giving up just because it seems impossible at the time.

I want to make some changes to my lifestyle and the way I treat both my body and my mind.
  • I am not somebody that watches what they eat or stresses over the amount of calories in a chocolate bar, I normally just eat whatever I want whenever I want regardless of the health impact. I think because I am still young I have never worried about that sort of thing but I think it is important to start eating healthier whilst I am still young and my body can adapt a lot faster. I want to start incorporating more fruit and veg into my diet and snacking on healthier things.
  • I have alway tended to be a negative person, thinking of the cons before the pros. I realise this isn't the healthiest way to live especially when you have goals that your negative attitude restricts you from achieving. I want to find methods of switching to a healthier mind, this could be through meditation or even just reading 'self-help' positive, mind altering books and practising the techniques suggested.
  • I have never been a gym goer, I've always had the 'I'll go to the gym when I get fat' outlook but now (maybe the start of my new positive view point) I realise going to the gym is not something you do to fix a problem you can also go to the gym to prevent a problem, to make yourself feel happier and healthier and to build up your motivation. Although I can't see myself becoming a fitness fanatic, I can take baby steps. I have already started downloading fitness apps that I can do from home to make a start on getting that healthy body!

I have now been running this blog for 10 months and I apologise for the cliche but it honestly feels like only yesterday I started my online journey!

I think the reason I put off blogging for so long was because of where I live. As much as I love my home, it is very small and that means everyone knows everyones business and it often ends in judgement of some sort. I think I was worried of what people might say or think of me blogging, but in all honestly I no longer care. I have learnt that it is important to do as you wish and not to worry about what other people will think.

This year, I want to put a lot of time and effort into improving my online platform.
  • I am keen to improve the content on my blog. I want to write more engaging posts on topics of interest. Obviously this will come in time as and when I develop my own personal style and gain confidence showing you what I know and love. But your feedback is always welcome and really appreciated!
  • This year, I also want to focus on improving my blog photography. I think this is one of the weakest areas of my blog currently and it really bugs me! I am really passionate about improving my skill set in both photography and editing and I hope that will only boost your opinion of my blog.
  • Finally, I will be spending time (and money) upgrading the aesthetics of my blog. I want to revamp the styling and layout of my blog to make it a nicer place for you to visit. I will also be making sure I revamp my branding and concentrate on doing things as 'MissShonaO' the brand (you never know, that name may also be something that changes)!

Throughout 2016 I want to get to a point where I can say my full time job is something I love. Although I am in full time employment outside of blogging, I know that I want something much different from a career perspective. Hopefully as a result from the above 'blogging' resolutions I will be able to make this a part of (if not my full time) career. Now I am aware this is something that takes successful bloggers years to accomplish, but my aim for this year is to be on track to that. I want to make all the right steps towards being my own boss and setting up my own career.
  • This initially means taking blogging more seriously (which I guess should have come under the blogging section). I want to be able to dedicate more time to blogging and view it as a more professional aspect of my life rather than just a hobby. Although I don't want to have to regiment myself and loose all of the fun of what I do, I would like to be successful and I think being organised and setting a structure is a good way to start.
  • I have considered the prospect of uploading to YouTube. Although I'm not entirely sure how I could make that work. I don't lead a particularly interesting life to the point where people would be interested in seeing it daily so at this stage I don't think daily vlogging is an option but I have thought about a more visual vlog uploaded maybe every 2 weeks so I can include the fun stuff. This is only an idea and nothing set in stone but definitely something to think about for 2016.
  • I also have another little project up my sleeve. I can't disclose too much information at the moment as it is in the very early stages and something quite personal currently. Just know that 2016 is going to be the year for doing great things and achieving even the wildest of dreams!

I hope this has inspired you a little bit to take a look at how you approach life.

Feel free to let me know what your new years resolutions are!

Thanks for reading
